This post is all about HOW TO DECORATE A FIREPLACE. If you have a fireplace, it is probably the focal point of your room. So finding the right decor to style it can add major design interest to your space. Recently I went on a mission to get my fireplace mantel looking Architectural-Digest-worthy on a Penny Saver budget. After A LOT of styling experiments (and bargain hunting), here’s what I’ve learned about HOW TO DECORATE A FIREPLACE.

Include art, a canvas photo, or (my personal favorite) the Frame TV at the center of your mantel.
The Frame TV is a great option because it allows you to change out the photo easily and often. We like to change the art based on the season! It really helps make the space feel festive all year round. The Frame TV is also great if you want to display a custom message for birthday parties or holidays (i.e. “Happy Birthday Mom” with mom’s photo).
2. Keep decor heights, shapes and colors balanced on both sides of your mantel.
My go-to decor pieces usually include books, candles, diffusers, lanterns and plants. I’d suggest buying a variety of these items then playing around with the placement. I decided to add these Amazon Pillar Candle Holders to balance out the heights on both sides of the mantel. LED candles are also a great option instead of real candles. These budget-friendly LED candles from Amazon were a great find.
3. Incorporate plants for a pop of color (faux or real depending on your green thumb level).
I used the Magnolia faux Eucalyptus stems from Target. They are beautifully realistic and fairly inexpensive compared to some others I’ve found. The vase I used is from Pottery Barn and absolutely stunning in person. I bought the XL Artisan Vase and it is huge :). For this vase I used 4 stems.
Also, MAJOR BOOK HACK, if you are looking for beautiful books but you don’t want to spend a fortune, check out https://www.thriftbooks.com/ for some amazing deals on books! I bought these 2 Architectural Digest books for $5.00 each!!
4. If you have a hearth, this is a great place to add an ottoman for seating and lanterns.
We have an asymmetrical fireplace so we decided to place a couple lanterns next to our ottoman. These Target lanterns were a dupe of the original lanterns I wanted from Pottery Barn (that were out of my price range). I’m so happy with how amazing these Target lanterns turned out!
THAT’S IT! You’re ready to create your own fireplace mantel and hearth masterpiece! Hope this article was helpful.
